15. Canadian Sleigh

 15.  Canadian Sleigh (also known as a “Four Passenger Trap Sleigh” c. 1890) The exterior is painted black while the interior is painted red with cream velvet covered seats.  There are two front and two rear seats, the front seatbacks are adjustable allowing easier access for rear passengers.  Bert Powell bought this carriage from Colonel Arthur Fitzpatrick of St. Clair Ave. West, Toronto. Arthur Fitzpatrick was the son of Rt. Hon. Sir Charles Fitzpatrick (Chief Justice of Canada from 1906 to 1918). Arthur married Blanche Preston in September 1916 and died in 1938.

Caveats:

A. In many cases the photos shown are old photographs. This is not done to mislead the viewer, but simply because they were available to us.

B.  The carriages/sleighs have been well kept in so far as they have been stored indoors from the time each was purchased by Bert Powell between 1938 and the early 1960’s all the way to the present day. At present the bones of the carriages/sleighs are good, but almost every carriage/sleigh is in need of some love and attention. In an ideal world the potential buyer of each carriage/sleigh would be able to see the carriage in person or arrange for a buyer’s rep to view the carriage in question. As sellers we would be happy to take whatever photos and videos are needed.

C. Moving the carriages/sleighs from King, Ontario (45 minutes north of Toronto) to each buyer’s destination of choice is the responsibility of the buyer and must be arranged by the buyer.
