 12.  Tandem Gig (c. 1885) made by The Flandrau Co. of New York City. It was purchased by Bert Powell from Sir William Mulock of Newmarket, ON, Canada’s first Post Master General.  The Flandrau Company was located on Broome Street in New York City.  This type of Gig has steel wheels for travel on rough country roads   The seat cushion is maroon and in need of repair.  The leather seat skirt and carriage interior are black.  The carriage exterior, undercarriage and wheels are painted red.

Caveats:

A. In many cases the photos shown are old photographs. This is not done to mislead the viewer, but simply because they were available to us.

B.  The carriages/sleighs have been well kept in so far as they have been stored indoors from the time each was purchased by Bert Powell between 1938 and the early 1960’s all the way to the present day. At present the bones of the carriages/sleighs are good, but almost every carriage/sleigh is in need of some love and attention. In an ideal world the potential buyer of each carriage/sleigh would be able to see the carriage in person or arrange for a buyer’s rep to view the carriage in question. As sellers we would be happy to take whatever photos and videos are needed.

C. Moving the carriages/sleighs from King, Ontario (45 minutes north of Toronto) to each buyer’s destination of choice is the responsibility of the buyer and must be arranged by the buyer.

13. Handy Wagon aka Democrat

 13.  Handy Wagon aka Democrat (c. 1900) probably Canadian made.  Both seats are raised, as are the sides of the carriage body, which make this both a work vehicle and a transportation vehicle.  The seats have tufted-leather backs, with leather seats and flaps, the body and wheels are painted green with yellow trim.  The rear seat is removable, thus making this carriage much like a pickup truck. In fact, the back tailgate folds down exactly like a pickup truck.
