4. Bachelor Brougham

 4.  Bachelor Brougham 1905, Brewster Co., New York City.  This carriage was made to order for Mr. John Dixon, Rosedale, Ontario in 1904 and was shipped in March 1905 at a cost of $2,050.00.  This style of carriage was designed for a professional gentleman, such as a doctor or lawyer – someone who could afford a coachman to drive it.  A sliding front window allows access from passenger to driver at the discretion of the driver.  Windows in the doors could be raised or lowered for ventilation and/or privacy.  Bert Powell bought this carriage and the Victoria (#3) from Mr. John Dixon c.1940, which means both have had only two owners from 1905 to 2023.

Note re logo on the one door: This carriage was rented for use in a movie in the 1980’s and the movie producers painted (stencilled?) this logo on the door without permission.

B.  The carriages/sleighs have been well kept in so far as they have been stored indoors from the time each was purchased by Bert Powell between 1938 and the early 1960’s all the way to the present day. At present the bones of the carriages/sleighs are good, but almost every carriage/sleigh is in need of some love and attention. In an ideal world the potential buyer of each carriage/sleigh would be able to see the carriage in person or arrange for a buyer’s rep to view the carriage in question. As sellers we would be happy to take whatever photos and videos are needed.

C. Moving the carriages/sleighs from King, Ontario (45 minutes north of Toronto) to each buyer’s destination of choice is the responsibility of the buyer and must be arranged by the buyer. 

5. Long-Bodied Road Buggy - Wagon

 5.  Long-Bodied Road Buggy - Wagon (c. 1900) made by The Brantford Carriage Company, Brantford, Ontario.  This is a two-seater carriage with a large open area in the cart to transport supplies behind the seat.

 6.  Open Four Seat Buggy (c. 1900) made in Ontario.  Black body and seats with black patent leather front skirt, red painted wheels and axels.  This carriage was a pleasure-touring vehicle.
